Introduction

Influenced by the Semaphore Flag messaging method, we crafted a simple letter pinpointing system effortlessly grasped by kids, turning letter recognition and phonics into a thrilling adventure, similar to cracking a hidden code.

Exciting Features:

  1. Engaging

  2. The speed of the sticks were apt

  3. They felt like they decoded a password

  4. The need to track which letter is being pointed at helps with concentration and attention span

  5. Kids between 8-10 yrs also enjoyed the game

Possible iterations:

  1. Using a simpler font, where the letters are easily recognisable

  2. Addition of a scrambler in the code for older children.

  3. An indication of start and end

Takeaways

  1. While designing for children, storyline and characters play a very important role to keep them engaged

  2. All the steps and functions need to be clearly stated with constant feedback

  3. Feel free to become a kid yourself during the process

  4. Always conduct a protoyping/ user testing session with a bunch of children together, the joy on their face is worth it!
